Let each breath we take be for ourselves, and also our friends and loved ones. Let us breathe for the trees, for all animals, insects, and those who’ve lost their lives or homes during times of disaster. Let us breathe for the elderly, the fearful, the single mother, and fiery mob. Let us breathe for the millions of flowers and missiles of fury that sometimes rise in our minds. Let us breathe for the missed drumbeat, the fumbled pickup line, and clumsy kiss. Let us breathe new air under the wings of weary birds, and new lifeblood into the hearts of the hopeless. Let us breathe for those in chains, the oppressed, and never blessed. Let it be that whenever we breathe, we not only breathe for ourselves, but for everyone and everything around us.
